Therapy – A Horror Adventure Map for Minecraft 1.8

November is not over yet. The season of scaring the soul out of someone has not yet come to pass. And with it, I bring you a spooky horror adventure map for Minecraft 1.8.

Therapy is a single player horror map created by username Betathedata especially for Halloween.

The story revolves around Jim – a mental asylum patient, as he talks about the memories of his childhood to the only therapist who is up for the job.

In the game, you will control the 9-year old Jim as he relives a tragic memory of the past.

The map takes the full potential of a custom resource pack and pushes it to the limit as it features many things that are not available in vanilla game play. One obvious example is the fully working TV found in the living room. (Make sure to use only the default resource pack in the pack selection screen – since the Therapy resource pack is built inside the map.

Albeit it is a bit short when it comes to game time, there are many things about this map that make up for it and make the map special. For one, I have never played an adventure map with a story line this grim and spooky.

The adventure map is also filled with in-game cinematics, cut scenes, and jump scares (sorry, no spoilers for you.). Players are advised not to move during cut scenes to avoid bugs.

My favorite thing on this map — aside from the TV– is the fully voiced narration of the story. To avoid narrations from overlapping, it is recommended for players not to proceed to the next room until the current narration is over.

The Therapy horror map was part of the 72-hour map challenge. Thus the entire map was created in no more than 3 days. Even so, it is obvious that a lot of work have been put into the creation of this map.

Unlike many maps under the “adventure” category, Therapy takes only about 10 minutes to complete.
