In vanilla Minecraft, your world essentially pauses as you sleep. Instead of simulating the night’s passage, vanilla Minecraft simply pauses the game and switches the mode from day to night.
Because of that, you can’t simply sleep until your crops are fertile or until more mobs respawn for you to harvest. Instead, you have to sit around and wait like everyone else.
The Somnia Mod changes that along with many other aspects of Minecraft’s sleeping system. Thanks to the Somnia Mod, time actually feels like a real part of the Minecraft world instead of just a tacked on feature.
Here’s how the Somnia Mod works:
-Simulates the world while players sleep. Crops and trees continue to grow, smelting progress continues, weather progresses, mobs are active, and dropped items will decay. Essentially, all of the important Minecraft functions continue to function overnight.
-Players will heal based on the length of time they spend sleeping as well as the difficulty setting. Hunger will also continue to drop overnight.
-No more sleep triggered monster spawns. Nobody likes going to sleep only to find a creeper when they wake up. It’s even worse when you go back to sleep after defeating that creeper and wake up to find another creeper just a second later. Somnia removes sleep triggered monster spawns, which means you no longer have to worry about whether or not your bed is in an unsafe location. If your bed was safe when you went to sleep, it will still be safe when you wake up.
-Sleep and wake at any time. You can now choose when you sleep and when you wake up. There are a total of 16 options throughout the day and players can access these options when holding a Clock item in their hands.
-Sleeping now takes a few moments instead of just a second. During these few moments, the game simulates the Minecraft world. If you have a large, complex world running on a slow computer, then this process can take quite a bit of time. On most computers, however, it’s not going to be a big deal.
The Somnia Mod is highly compatible with virtually any other Minecraft mod because it does not add any new block IDs or items to the game. Instead, it changes an in-game system that most other mods don’t change.
