The School Mod: Reloaded for Minecraft 1.7.10

With summer vacation more than halfway over for most, what better way to celebrate than remind you about school?  Introducing: The School Mod, recoded for 1.7.10!

This mod introduces an array of textbooks, which can be used to achieve some sort of effect (which of course varies depending on what book it is).  In order to get these books, you must first craft a desk:

Despite being a snazzy piece of furniture, the desk also functions as a way to exchange regular books for notepads.  To do so, simply equip a book and right-click on the desk with it.  Afterwards, combine your notepad with other items to create a textbook.  This is different from previous versions which had a unique recipe for notepads.

In this recoded version, books are also cheaper to make.  The list of main books are as follows:

  • History textbook: crafted with a stone block, brick, and iron block.

    • Spawns a Historian villager when used.  Historians can be traded with and usually provide high quality tools or weapons for large amounts of emeralds (9 on average).

  • Math textbook: combine pumpkin pie (pi – get it?), a hopper, and a redstone comparator.

    • In the old version, this spawned a wolf.  I don’t understand the connection, but I’m fairly sure it still does that.  Please correct me in the comments below if this is no longer the case.

  • Science textbook: craft a poisoned potato, blaze powder, and redstone dust with your book.

    • The power of science can be used on any zombie, creeper, or skeleton to forge their signature on their license, making them an organ donor – then, slay them, and take their head.

  • Language textbook: place red, white, and blue wool together with your notepad for this book.

    • Right-clicking with this book in hand will deal damage to all hostile mobs in the area.  It will not damage friendly or neutral mobs (to my knowledge) and reaches up to 25 blocks.  It is strong enough to destroy a zombie in a single cast (slightly stronger than a standard diamond sword).

  • Geography textbook: one map, compass, and clock are needed to make this book.

    • Using this textbook will teleport the player to a random location in the world.  Its usefulness is debatable, but it is nonetheless a fun item to have (especially if you decide to relocate).

  • English textbook: one empty standard book, one empty book and quill, and one ink sac.

    • Last but not least, this book will instantly spawn a library for the player.  The library circles all the way around and is two blocks high – enough for level 30 enchantments if an enchanting table is placed in the center.  Since this recipe mostly consists of books, this can be used to create a near limitless supply of books – given that one can find enough ink sacs.

Also new to the 1.7.10 version are a list of  special books, which must be crafted from a main book and another item.  You will have to try these out for yourselves – here are the recipes:

  • History

    • Wooden plank: Present textbook.

    • Cobblestone: Past textbook.

    • Iron block: Future textbook.

  • Math

    • Stone: Geometry textbook.

    • Stick: Measuring textbook.

    • TNT: Algebra textbook.

  • Science

    • Lava bucket: Chemistry textbook.

    • Spider eye: Biology textbook.

    • Sand: Physics textbook.

  • Language

    • Bread: French textbook.

    • Raw porkchop: German textbook.

    • Cactus: Spanish textbook.

  • Geography

    • Water bucket: Rivers textbook.

    • Netherrack: Nether textbook.

    • Iron ore: Caves textbook.

  • English

    • Book and quill: Grammar textbook.

    • Ink sac: Writing textbook.

    • Empty book: Reading textbook.

That equals 18 different books all in all, each with their own unique effect.
