Today, I bring to you a very different sort of mod. My first reaction to this mod was that it was interesting but ultimately completely useless. Upon further consideration my mind changed completely. Keep an open mind, and allow me to introduce the No Escape The Crates mod by RubixRevenge!
Essentially, this mod creates a prison made out of crates surrounding the player that continuously expands when a crate is destroyed. It cannot be escaped – as the title suggests. The player is doomed to starve to death – or be teleported out, if possible.
Each crate contains random items. As far as I can tell they can spawn any item in the game. This may provide a way to stay alive (food) while stuck in one of these dimensions. On that note – I am fairly certain that it is a dimension and not a structure, meaning that it will not appear to continuously expand to people on the outside.
So why would anyone ever want to install this mod if its sole purpose is to trap those who use it? Well, to name a few reasons:
Prison! If you are running a server, or simply a large private world via Hamachi or something similar, you can use this to punish players with poor attitudes. Works especially well if you have cheats enabled for yourself, allowing you to set their spawn point inside the prison. Don’t forget to teleport them out when they’ve learned their lesson.
Defense! If you find yourself cornered by hostile players and do not wish to forfeit your items or experience points to them… This may be a last resort.
Traps! Being chased by someone who just won’t leave you alone? Throw one of these down and take ‘em down with you! They’ll be sure to leave you alone afterwards… If they ever get out.
Minigames! Not quite sure how the item generation works in this mod, but if it allows generation of items from other mods you could potentially give players a very small chance at mining an item allowing their escape (or enough obsidian to make a nether portal?). Let the chaos commence!
One thing I appreciate about this mod is that it is incorporated into the gameplay, rather than acting as an administrative tool. To create one of these infinite dimensions, players must collect infinity shards from these ores:
Doing so causes significant damage and hunger to the player, making them dangerous to even mine. Four shards together can be combined to create an infinity stone, which is then used to craft the infinity spawner:
Finally, a crate must be crafted and used to create the infinity base. The crate is made with sticks in an X shape with planks filling the spaces, while the infinity base is made with yet more stones:
As you can see, this is quite a difficult recipe to complete. Once all of this is finished, the player must place the infinity spawner somewhere in the world:
Placing the infinity base on it will then transport them to the crate dimension.
Word of warning for survival players: entering this dimension in your world WILL result in you being permanently stuck there. If you have slept in any bed or otherwise set your spawn point, it may save you, but beware that sometimes not even this is enough.
