Minecraft Forge is a mod that acts as a normalizer for all other mods in Minecraft. It is easily the single greatest mod to-date created for the game, as it allows anyone coding within its specifications the ability to make their mod compatible with other mods. Of course, such an endeavor would only work if most or all people used it; luckily, that is the case. Forge has become almost universally accepted as the proper way to mod Minecraft.

In the future, you may see this mod referred to as any of the following:

● Minecraft Forge
● Forge
● Forge API
● Forge Mod Loader

These all usually represent the same thing, though technically some of them do not actually refer to “Forge”. Unless you plan to make your own mods, however, this isn’t really important.

Installing Forge is a little tricky, but it is well worth it. Thankfully, the developers have made it a little easier by providing an automatic installation program.

1. Download the appropriate version of Forge for your needs here. Be sure to click the (installer) under the recommended section.
2. Make sure Minecraft is closed, then run the file you just downloaded. A screen should pop up with the options “install client”, “install server”, and “extract”. Choose install client and click OK.
3. After Forge is installed, open Minecraft and verify that there is a Forge profile available. Select it and start the game. Once you reach the title screen, close the game again. This creates the folder architecture necessary to install mods.

Installing mods is even easier than installing Forge. Each mod review on this site will contain specific installation instructions, but most of the time they will remain the same.

If your main screen looks something like this when you begin the game, you did it correctly:

Clicking on the Mods button will bring you to the list of mods where you can examine, enable, or disable entire mods or specific parts of mods (if applicable):

And that’s all there is to it! Download a few mods from our site to make sure Forge works properly, and happy Crafting!
