The Minecraft modding community is home to dozens – nay, hundreds – of mob mods. Well, add another one to the list. Today, we’re talking about Lycanite’s Mobs for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5.
Lycanite’s Mobs aims to add more mobs to Minecraft and make those mods more biome-specific. Obviously, this isn’t the first mod to add mobs to specific biomes, but it does add a bunch of creative new creatures to the game.
The mobs are inspired by a bunch of different games and mythologies. Most of the mobs are hostile by nature, although some can be farmed and tamed. In future updates, Lycanite plans to add mountable mods.
Here is a sample of some of the mobs that have been added to the game through this mod:
-The Gorgomite: Small rock beetles that travel in packs. They can be killed easily but will also summon allies when attacked, which means you need to kill them fast. Gorgomites have a 10% chance of summoning an ally upon death.
-Aspids: Aspids are found in swamps and are very poisonous. They also have strange plants growing from their backs. Fortunately, Aspids are peaceful until provoked.
-Belph: Demonic creatures that throw balls of fire at players. Individually, they’re week but in groups, they can be quite a challenge.
-Behemoth: The Behemoth is a large demon creature that throws balls of hellfire. Hellfire is bright green and spreads faster and burns longer than regular fire. These creatures are very large.
-Nether Soul: Nether Souls fly around the skies in the Nether. They charge at ‘free’ souls – like you – because they are jealous. Once killed, the Nether Soul will explode.
-Cacodemon: The Cacodemon is a large, slothful demon that drifts through the air. It can be tamed using Hellfire charges as bait and healed by feeing the Cacodemon cooked pinky meat.
-Ettin: Ettins are twin-headed “abominations” that are found in deep swamps. They’re not common, and they are slow, clumsy, and dumb. However, they have a lot of health and a deadly twin club attack that will smash you and the surrounding terrain.
-Crypt Zombies: Crypt Zombies are desert creatures that crawl out from the sand during the night. They act like regular zombies but don’t burn in daylight.
-And many more!
Most mobs drop resources and items that can be used to create useful things. Aspids drop Aspid Meat, for example, that is very poisonous when raw but provides a powerful regeneration effect when cooked.
Sample items created with mob drops include the Poison Ray Scepter (made from fermented spider eyes and blaze rods) as well as the Doomfire Scepter, Hellfire Scepter, Devilstar Scepter, and more dangerous weapons.
