Instant Structures Mod for Minecraft 1.7.2 / 1.7.10

If you are more interested in macro-construction than building individual structures, or are simply bad at building interesting things, the Instant Structures mod by MaggiCraft is definitely something you should download.  If you do love building, this is still a fun mod to have – whether you are simply curious, need inspiration, or are just feeling lazy one day.

So what makes this mod different from all of the other instant structure mods?  Aside from the obvious point of having a different set of structures to choose from, it has in-game recipes and is activated by using items in-game:

This allows the mod to be used on servers, or simply by players who don’t want to deal with remembering and typing in commands.  It could act as a reward for server events, or a way for players to quickly create their abode after claiming a section of the world.  Furthermore, this has great potential in minigames – imagine a class in Hunger Games that can instantly deploy entire buildings!

The key to this mod’s charm is that it has a large quantity of structures and adds more on a regular basis.  Currently, there are a bit over 80 different creations available.  Some are simple and lovely homes:

While others are large and lavish palaces (literally):

Some other structures exist as well, such as this menacing looking airship:

Another fantastic feature that sets this mod apart from the rest is that when you attempt to place a structure, it will display an indicator of how large the structure is and ask for confirmation:

This is helpful when planning cities (or whatever environment you are crafting).  Structures will also spawn facing the same direction as the player – a desired feature for many past instant structure mods.  Structures can also be placed on uneven ground, even inside mountains or caves.

Terrain editing

Another part of this mod exists – it also functions as a mass block editor.  There are various tools that allow players to shape their creations with greater ease, making use of a “variable block” system.  For example:

In this screenshot, a circle of stone has been created by placing the striped variable blocks to determine its width and height, while the stone block is used to determine the material of the circle.  For server operators, be wary: this could easily be used to exploit the game to gain large amounts of valuable resources (i.e. by using diamond blocks as the material).

There are many other tools, such as pyramids, expanding the surrounded area in the given direction, cutting holes in masses of blocks, and more.

My opinion of this mod

One of the greatest basic utility mods out there.  Many consider building a mundane (or difficult) task, and could benefit greatly from this.  Others can simply get more creative by experimenting with the geometry tools, or by editing spawned structures.  Fun to play around with regardless!

Note: my apologies to anyone who came here looking for my review of the Circus skin contest on PMC – I forgot about the delay in judging.  Results won’t be out for another day or so!  Stay tuned!
