This week, we celebrated the New Year and I got to say, last year was a blast!
2014 in Minecraft was filled with a lot of things in the world of Minecraft – and it was the year that brought major changes to the life of Notch and in the Minecraft community. There were a series of major updates, Notch having a new home – ehem… mansion, some convention drama and issues, and loads upon loads of amazing creations from the community ranging from amazing world maps and redstone contraptions, to mods, adventure maps, and resource packs.
Pocket Edition has also advanced a great deal last year and now features an optimize and very stable gameplay with hints of features from Minecraft 1.8 of the PC version.
2014 was also the year that Microsoft bought Mojang and all of the games there with for a massive 2.5 billion of good US dollars where a big chunk was given to the founder and creator Marcus “Notch” Persson himself – which he used to buy a mansion that caused a lot of ‘controversies’. And to quote the staffs of Mojang:
“There are only a handful of potential buyers with the resources to grow Minecraft on a scale that it deserves. We’ve worked closely with Microsoft since 2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its development. We’re confident that Minecraft will continue to grow in an awesome way.”
Since now that one of the largest and riches company now holds Minecraft at the palm of their hands, we are hoping they lead it to a better tomorrow especially this year of 2015.
It is unclear, however, whether the other Mojang games such as The Scrolls would continue to be developed as the Microsoft seems to focus on the ever growing potential of Minecraft… but we could only hope.
Well, 2014 has many ups and downs, but it certainly was a good year to all Minecrafters. Hopefully 2015 will top that and we’ll see a Minecraft game that we haven’t seen before..
