Gravestone Mod for Minecraft 1.6.2/1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

Death is a topic that isn’t addressed very often by the Minecraft modding community.  User NightKosh has developed a mod that adds gravestones to the game, but they are more than just aesthetic markers to remember the fallen.

While the main function of this mod is to add gravestones, several other features are also mixed in – but let’s focus on the awesome grave mechanic first.

When a player dies, he or she will always spawn a gravestone.  This marks their location of death and, when right-clicked, will display how the player died as well as the contents of their inventory upon death.  They can be destroyed and collected (with a silk touch enchanted pickaxe), but only placed on the following surfaces:

  • Dirt

  • Grass

  • Sand

  • Gravel

  • Snow

  • Mycelium

  • Soul Sand

All of these blocks can be dug up with a shovel, thus adhering to the thematic element of a grave.

Now for the fun part: gravestones have a chance to spawn zombies, skeletons, zombie pigmen, and wither skeletons, depending on the surrounding conditions.  This mod also interacts with the Mo’Creatures mod, spawning wraiths, flame wraiths, and silver skeletons from gravestones.

Interestingly enough, villagers and tame animals (ocelots and wolves) will drop gravestones as well:

These graves can spawn zombie versions of themselves.  They are useful, however, in that corpses can be collected from them and resurrected at an altar for experience levels:

A new villager is also added with this mod, called the Undertaker.  His job is to sell chisels (used to personalize graves), gravestones, and memorials, which are large statues of various mobs (and Steve!).

Since this mod is pretty huge, I will list the rest of the features here, and if you are interested in learning more, either download the mod or visit its mod page here.
