If you grow tired of the same usual Minecraft world and want to change it up to a smoother, cuter style, the Floatsy, Cuteness Reinvented texture pack by PlunderPixels may be for you! With Super Nintendo esque graphics, it is also an easier transition from other games to the world of Minecraft for players who may not be so receptive to the game’s visuals.
This pack is especially great for beginners who are not familiar with the game’s items and blocks, as it keeps the general appearance of most items the same with a small touch up on colors, shading, style, and shape. It is a simple change that eliminates the original “pixel” look and somehow gives off a mix between both a cartoon and a more realistic vibe.
The homage to classic games can be seen in many of the individual elements, such as the grass textures as pictured above. The solid color with a single ‘u’ shape to define the detail should give a fresh brewed cup of nostalgia to anyone who grew up with late 80s or 90s video games. Plus, the weeds look quite close to the ones found in the early Super Mario games.
The wood planks in this mod look smoothed out and easier on the eye, making for great houses (especially when viewing from a distance). When combined with decent shaders, the soft glow from the light combined with the simple textures of the wood (and indeed, the rest of this pack) give an interesting and oddly appealing feel.
Finally, the revamped user interface:
To be honest, I’m not sure that this UI fits quite so well with the rest of the pack. Everything in general is more rounded and spaced out, with some changes to the saturation of color and density of details. The overall look is just how the name states it is; floaty, soft, subtle and cute. The UI, however, seems a little more serious, albeit still in the same general style.
Regardless, this pack is definitely worth a download for anyone who loves older video games, or simply anyone looking for a different feel for Minecraft without drastically changing its visual style.
