Falling Meteors mod for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

Oh joy, more ways to die horribly and have your hard work erased in the world of Minecraft!  Just kidding – this mod is actually really interesting and adds some flavor to the game.  AlexDGr8r’s Falling Meteors mod adds exactly what you might expect to the game: meteors that fall randomly from the sky!

As if the prospect of meteors wasn’t awesome enough, this mod also adds a few items and even new mobs to the game.  Depending on what type of meteor (yes, there are different types of meteors) falls in the area, advanced ores will be created by the impact and may be harvested by conventional means.

  • Meteorite set – items created from meteorite are magnetic and increase the pickup radius for items when equipped.

  • Frezarite set – this collection gives players power over water and allows them to move across it as if it were solid.

  • Kreknorite set – equipping items from this set grants complete fire immunity.

Each set contains four pieces of armor and one of each tool, plus a sword.

One of the mobs added to the game is the Comet Kitty, which is friendly and adorable:

The other mob is the Alien Creeper.  He is not a friend.  Do not attempt to hug him:

Also included in this mod are a few utility items that address the threat of meteors:

  • Meteor Shield: upgradeable to be more powerful and encompass a wide range – keep your town safe!

  • Timer Block: pinpoint the time of the next meteor.

  • Detector: pinpoint the location of nearby meteors.

The detector is especially useful if you are attempting to gather Comet Kitties or materials for a set of armor.

Finally, the Meteor Summoner is introduced with this mod.  Want to wreak havoc on your enemies, eliminate a huge group of mobs, or just harvest the new materials?  Use this to invoke doom from the heavens.

How to install Falling Meteors for Minecraft 1.6.4 / 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

  1. Download and install Minecraft Forge mod loader

  2. Download the latest version of Falling Meteors from Curse forge.

  3. Hold Windows key and press R to open the Run… dialog, or go to Start > Run.

  4. Enter %appdata% and navigate to your .minecraft/mods folder.

  5. Drag and drop the .zip file downloaded in step 2 into this folder.

Without the feature to protect areas with a meteor shield, I would never use this mod.  Is there anything that you think would improve the quality of Falling Meteors?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
