This Chester Mod by Xwaffle introduces the adorable creature from Don’t Starve to act as your companion in the wild, dangerous, storage-limited world that is Minecraft!
I’m really not sure whether the Minecraft incarnation of Chester is cute or creepy. For the sake of this mod review, I’m going to go with cute.
To obtain Chester, one must first craft the Eyebone, as is the case in the original game. The recipe is simple:
Once the Eyebone is in your possession, simply right-click with the Eyebone in hand and Chester will spawn. Chester can be right-clicked to open up:
Opening Chester yields a new menu which looks very similar to the crafting dialog. This is not a crafting table, however; it is a storage with nine spaces.
Chester will follow the player around when not in use. This mobile storage can be incredibly useful for any number of reasons. Some off the top of my head include:
Storing extra pickaxes and torches during long mining expeditions;
Storing food and buckets of milk/water for emergencies;
Keeping various potions to suit whatever situation arises during your travels;
Transporting seeds and other plants to a farm.
Of course, much of this also includes a novelty factor, which may or may not be worth the effort – this is entirely up to you, the player. I personally think Chester is adorable and totally useful!
