If you’ve ever thought that the Minecraft world was missing vehicular transportation, then the Car Mod 1.6 will be perfect for you. Using Car Mod, players can craft a car and drive it anywhere they like.

Car Mod might as well be called ‘Cart Mod’, since it gives players the ability to drive a mine cart as opposed to an actual car. Of course, mine carts are more useful in the Minecraft world, since you can place ore and other material into the car’s inventory to transport it around the map.

Just like a real car, the mine carts in Car Mod require fuel in order to run. Fuel comes in the form of coal or charcoal. You’ll have to fuel your car on a regular basis in order to get around.

It’s very easy to control the mine carts. Controls work just like you would expect, with the W key controlling forward movement, the AD keys controlling left/right movement, and the shift key controlling the brake. The mod creator recently put backwards driving support into the mod as well with the ‘S’ key. The mine cart can only travel up 1 block at a time. Ultimately, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of driving around Minecraft.

The Car Mod itself is quite basic. It just adds the basic controls and mechanics of car movement into the game. The real fun of Car Mod comes from installing some of the car models and textures that others have created. A few of these car models can be found in the Car Mod’s official forum thread.

The mod creator has also suggested that more custom-designed cars might be added in future versions of the mod, so stay tuned for new updates. These cars have been rumored to be able to go up 2 or more blocks at a time, and they might also feature faster speeds.

How to install  Car Mod for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

Step 1) Download Car Mod 1.6 from its official forum thread

Step 2) Download and install ModLoader

Step 3) Open .minecraft/bin (search for %appdata% in the Windows search bar to get to this folder)

Step 4) Open the Minecraft.jar file using any extraction program (WinZIP or WinRAR for example)

Step 5) Delete the META-INF folder if you haven’t already done so

Step 6) Place the Car Mod zip folder into the mods folder

Step 7) Start playing Minecraft
