Looking for a new, refreshing, and different texture pack? This 5by5 rendition of Minecraft by user Halbzwilling is a unique take on the idea of pixelation that results in a surprisingly beautiful abstract landscape.
The premise of this pack is simple: each face of each texture must be made up of 25 squares, or a 5×5 grid. Each square is separated by a thin line, forming an actual grid pattern – I feel that this makes the textures much more interesting and pleasing than a simple grid of blocks, especially when multiples of the same color appear next to each other.
Due to the simplification, most textures are overall brighter and easier on the eyes – something I can definitely appreciate. Minecraft’s vanilla experience becomes straining after a while. One of the changes I appreciate most are the trees:
This screenshot also gives a great view of what the elements look like when put together. Perhaps it is the order and persistence of form that is relaxing; repetition is easier for the brain to process after all.
And last but not least, I will leave you with this glorious screenshot of a man-made landscape, featuring glorious arches and colorful designs, as shown on TheVace.net (a Minecraft server):
Even if you are not sure whether or not you like this pack, I highly recommend downloading it. Experiencing it first hand is incredible – spend just a few minutes with it installed and you will fall in love. This pack stands out from the crowd of realistic high-res packs being published by the dozens, and its developer deserves some recognition.
